ASD Market Week names the four must read fashion accessories blogs that all retail and fashion accessories buyers should have bookmarked
Sometimes making the sale is all about having the right product at the right price (and at the right time). In order to do so, you have to know what trend is just about to break in the market. If you’re a fashion accessories buyer (or enthusiast) one of the best ways to cull wholesale product trends is to search online. It’s also one of the best ways to prepare to shop a trade show, where you can physically shop hundreds of companies all in one place. But where do you look? We’ve done some of the digital heavy lifting for you by selecting four blogs below that will go a long way towards helping you make your product wish list.
The Purse Blog
With a category like fashion accessories, trends seem to change daily. The Purse Blog – a dedicated accessories blog – is nothing but accessories, and aggregates content and trend sources from around the web, helping you stay on top of the latest fashion news and shopping trends.
Missguided is a UK based, successful ecommerce-only brand that does huge numbers with women’s trendy fashion and accessories. One of their competitive advantages is knowing their market well and identifying new trends and stocking them quickly, which is easier for ecommerce-only sites than for traditional brick-and-mortar retail shops. A great feature on the Missguided site is the “Get Inspired” section where you can shop by trend, scope out the newest products, and see first-hand what trending products are being purchased most-often by their loyal audience.
A Continuous Lean
A Continuous Lean (ACL) is the hands-down leader of menswear blogs today. The blog was established in 2007 and has become the authority on American-made menswear and accessories. Posts span from men’s style and trends, to culture – all orbiting around a vintage aesthetic. ACL also constantly updates “The American List”, a detail list of brands (with links) that produce domestically. If your store merchandise mix specializes in made in the USA products, this is the blog for you.
The challenge for many retailers face is toeing the fine line of having desired merchandise while trying to maintain the most profitable margins for the business. The bloggers over at The Budget Babe help solve this very problem. The Budget Babe has a great feature called “Spot The Real: Which Costs More”, where they put similar side-by-side images of a current trend and the reader guesses which product is the pricey designer brand, and which is the similar, “inspired-by” lower-priced look . Often the lower-priced item is hundreds of dollars less but looks nearly identical.
Speaking of trade shows – make sure you make a list of trending items while checking these blogs out, so that when you do arrive to a trade show you can hit the ground running, and find all of those gems at just the right price. Also, sign up to their newsletters, follow them on their social media channels, and check back in regularly.
