How to Navigate ASD Market Week

Did you know that the home decor and gift industry is valued at  $62.5 billion and that the novelty and souvenir industry is worth $17 billion? This year alone, the smoke and vape industry is set to hit $3.5 billion!

When you combine these growing numbers with the fact that 95% of sales happen in-store, buyers are constantly thinking about what will drive revenue at the register.

At ASD Market Week, we know that our attendees want to buy products that are on-trend, have great value and enable higher margins.

Are you planning to attend our show? ASD Market Week is a massive, four-day marketplace with thousands of vendors and hundreds of product categories under one roof. With proper planning, you can easily navigate the ASD Market Week show floor. Please allow us to offer a few pro tips!

Once you register for your show badge and receive your confirmation, you will want to check out the ASD Insider blog for expert advice on trends and general business practices that can help keep you at the top of your retail game. About six weeks out, you will want to take advantage of the planning tools ASD Market Week offers to find new vendors, source products and book onsite appointments.

You’ll want to use the Show Planner provided to help you manage your show experience. This tool allows you to identify vendor matches based on product categories, contact exhibitors for show appointments, as well as review and schedule educational seminars. The ASD Show Planner is a one-stop destination for your planning. It also allows you to export appointments to your own desktop calendar, making your show planning process even more efficient.

Since ASD Market Week is a comprehensive show, which essentially hosts nine shows in one, it is important to plan ahead. One of the best practices you can do is separate your exhibitor visits according to their floor location within each show category. The nine categories available are: Fashion + Accessories, Gift + Home, Beauty + Fragrance, Toys + Novelty, C-Store, Smoke, General Store, Cash + Carry and SourceDirect. Separating your preferred categories by day is ideal, and when necessary, you can split morning visits from afternoon visits according to show floor location.

Even when prepared, huge shows like ASD Market Week are bound to throw in a few surprises. Discovering new vendors and visiting longtime favorites is part of the fun, but a few wrong turns can leave you feeling lost. So, be sure to take advantage of the “Match Me” kiosks situated throughout the show floor to help buyers find products and connect with the right vendors.

Another resource you do not want to overlook is our Matcher Tool. This can be found on your Show Planner, and it will help you connect with exhibitors who offer exactly what you are looking for (thanks to the details you share during your buyer registration).

Insider Tip: Your Show Planner will automatically sync with ASD’s soon-to-be launched mobile app version once you download it to your smartphone.

You want to learn. It’s important to allocate time for the educational seminars you want to attend in advance so you are not overlapping with necessary exhibitor time. ASD Market Week supports show attendees with free retailer educational sessions that take place directly on the show floors, located between the South and Central Halls, all four days of the show. There are over 60 sessions are available to attendees, and all sessions are free to registered buyers and exhibitors. Industry leaders and retail experts from Constant Contact, SnapRetail, BoxFox and LightSpeed are among the presenters we have hosted.

ASD is known for being a serious order-writing show, and the early bird gets the worm. Many vendors sell out of stock on the first day, so you will want to prepare a one-page overview for exhibitors you are writing orders with. The information you should incorporate includes your store contact information, your credit card billing information, federal (for shipping over borders or non-US distributors) and state tax ID, ship-to addresses, credit references for terms, and/or credit card information as well as store photos. Also remember to have plenty of business cards on hand.

Take advantage of the resources ASD Market Week offers, even if they are outside of your immediate comfort zone. The Show Planner, Matching Tool (this is a big one) and the mobile app deliver a huge advantage to the show attendees who use them! Register for the show now!
