ASD Market Week opened today, celebrating its 54th year. Here are the must-see events, happenings, and new developments on the show floor from Day 1! Source Direct’s Opening Ceremony, The Independent Retailer Conference, Amazon Selling Tips, and more.

Source Direct’s Opening Ceremony

SourceDirect at ASD Market Week, which connects international manufacturing suppliers with domestic importers and distributors, kicked off in grand style with a traditional ribbon cutting ceremony. Source Direct’s Factory Matchmaking desk made it easier than ever for our attendees to find the perfect suppliers.

Helping to celebrate the start of the show, Karalynn Sprouse – ASD Market Week’s Executive Vice President – welcomed exhibitors, retailers and ASD’s management team by cutting a celebratory ribbon to kick off the next four days of ASD Market Week in addition to welcoming all those in attendance to a Lion Dance – similar to a Dragon Dance – which is a ceremony opener that is believed to be good luck for businesses. Customary to Chinese New Year celebrations and other celebratory events in some cultures, the Lion Dance debuted for its first time at ASD Market Week as a way to kick off the next four days of the show in a celebratory fashion.

ASD kicked off 4 days of free e-commerce, Amazon selling, and retail strategy sessions with the following can’t-miss talks: 

ASD’s New Buyer Orientation with ASD’s own Amy Sadikoff and Nicole Leinbach Reyhle of Retail Minded

ASD is a big show and this packed 8 a.m. talk gave first-time buyers and online sellers step-by-step advice and tools to efficiently make the most of it.

Intro to Wholesale Sourcing for Amazon: Two Models (Wide vs. Deep) With Robyn Johnson and Eddie Levine, Internet Merchants Association (IMA)


Robyn Johnson and Eddie Levine use a two very different wholesale product buying strategies when it comes to Amazon – yet both equally successful.

What we learned: 

– Relationships are everything. Robyn might order 60 pieces across a wide selection of skews, while Eddie might order 10,000 pieces of only a handful of skews. Their approach to vendors is the same.

“Relationship building is everything when it comes to working with vendors. Product lists and pricing can come later.” – Eddie Levine of IMA

– Trade shows are essential to Amazon product sourcing but pre-planning is everything. Eddie visits almost two dozen shows per year.

– To overcome vendor resistance, maintain integrity. Honesty and authenticity go a long way.

– When it comes to Amazon, SEO is king. Know your search terms.
