ASD Market Week opened today, celebrating its 53rd year – here are the must-see events, happenings, and new developments on the show floor from Day 1! Source Direct’s Opening Ceremony, The Independent Retailer Conference, ASD’s opening night event, and more.
Source Direct’s Opening Ceremony
Day one of ASD Market Week opened today to thousands of retail buyers, exhibitors, and media with a festive Opening Ceremony in their Source Direct area. One of nine sections of ASD Market Week, Source Direct connects international manufacturing suppliers with domestic importers and distributors – and has doubled in size since last August.
“We’re expecting our largest turnout ever for ASD Market Week,” said Camille Candella, VP of Marketing for ASD. “Already there is great buzz on the show floor from buyers about all the great product they’re finding out there.”
Helping to celebrate the start of the show, Karalynn Sprouse – ASD Market Week’s Executive Vice President – welcomed exhibitors, retailers and ASD’s management team by cutting a celebratory ribbon to kick off the next four days of ASD Market Week in addition to welcoming all those in attendance to a Lion Dance – similar to a Dragon Dance – which is a ceremony opener that is believed to be good luck for businesses. Customary to Chinese New Year celebrations and other celebratory events in some cultures, the Lion Dance debuted for its first time at ASD Market Week as a way to kick off the next four days of the show in a celebratory fashion.
“We wanted to welcome all of our organizers and celebrate with them as we opened the show doors and wish them the best in prosperity for the next four days,” Linh Vu, Marketing Manager for Source Direct stated. “The Lion Dance is known to bring luck, happiness and prosperity, which is why we choose this as a way to help us kick off the start of ASD Market Week,” Vu explained.
Among the features of the show include the Independent Retailer Conference (IRC) – which returns to ASD Market Week for its fourth consecutive show. There are free retail strategy and e-commerce sessions are presented each day of the show for our attendees!

Smoke + Vape at ASD Welcomes Matthew Shotwell of “Weed Country” on The Discovery Channel
The Smoke + Vape accessories industry is growing at an incredible pace – the vape market alone has been valued at $2.5 billion, and expected to expand further as prohibition begins to recede.
ASD invited Matthew Shotwell of “Weed Country” on The Discovery Channel and his newly branded “Cannabus” (formerly known as The Twerkulator, insert chuckle here) to the Smoke + Vape section in the back of South Hall. Step inside the bus and discuss the ins and outs of the industry!

ASD’s Opening Night Party – Sayers Club, Tonight Sunday, August 2, 10PM
ASD Market Week welcomes all attendees to an Opening Night party at Sayers Club at the SLS Hotel on Sunday evening, August 2, 2015, at 10pm where ASD will offer a 1-hour hosted bar. This is a great place to network with other industry professionals, buyers, exhibitors, and the ASD team.
